The Live-in Caregiver Program (LCP) is a part of Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP). It was created to enable Canadians to recruit foreign nationals to provide childcare or home support for seniors or people with disabilities. The Live-in Caregiver program was unique within the Temporary Foreign Worker Program because it offered a direct pathway to permanent residence. Individuals with two years of work experience on a LCP work permit could apply to transition to permanent residence. In order to be eligible for the LCP individuals must have 24 months of authorized full-time live-in employment, or 3,900 hours of authorized full-time employment. And it must be within 4 years of arrival.
